THE ultimate aim for the agriculture sector is to be net exporter of food by 2010, the National SME Development Council said in its SME Annual Report 2007.

To achieve the various targets set, several high impact project have been initiated and among them us the Permanent Food Productions Park (TKPM).

Through the cooperation between the state and Federal Government, various TKPM areas for permanent food production have been established to aid small holding farmers in food production.

Under the Aquaculture Industry Zone initiative, a total of 19.6ha will be gazetted to develop the aquaculture industry in a comprehensive and systematic way.

It said that as wild fish capture rates peaked, supply will not able to meet the demands of rising human population making commercial aquaculture an important option for supply of fish proteins.

As for the National Feedlot Centre, the development of the beef industry will be implemented to meet the rising demand for meat.

Based in Gemas, the National Feedlot Centre is a joint project between Negeri Sembilan and the Federal Government through the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) and is expected to be instrumental in attaining the targeted 28% self-sufficiency level for beef production by 2010.
